IRCC converts each TCF Canada skill to an NCLC level. Listening and reading are scored out of 699, writing and speaking out of 20. NCLC 7 needs 458 in listening, 453 in reading, and 10 in writing and 10 in speaking, in every skill.

In writing and speaking, 10/20 is NCLC 7, but 9/20 is NCLC 6. Scores of 7 to 9 all count as NCLC 6.
What NCLC 7 in all four unlocks
- +25 CRS with English CLB 4 or lower, or no English test.
- +50 CRS with English CLB 5+ in all four skills.
- French-language category draws in Express Entry.
