Each question shows a short French document (a notice, an email, an ad, an article or an opinion piece) and asks one question with four answers. The questions get harder as you go, from A1 to C2, as in the real exams. TCF Canada reading is 39 questions in 60 minutes, and TEF Canada reading is 40 questions in 60 minutes.

At the end we count up from A1 and stop at the first level where you got less than half right. That gives a rough CEFR estimate, which we match approximately to NCLC (B1 ≈ NCLC 5–7, B2 ≈ NCLC 8–9). It isn’t a score: TCF Canada reading is scored out of 699 and TEF Canada reading out of 300 (ancien score), and only those results count for IRCC.
