CLB 7 French in 12 Weeks

A week-by-week study plan from NCLC 5–6 to NCLC 7 for TEF Canada and TCF Canada

This free PDF turns the jump from NCLC 5–6 to NCLC 7 into 12 concrete weeks: diagnose your weakest skill (weeks 1–4), build all four skills (weeks 5–8), then rehearse under real exam timing (weeks 9–12). It includes a diagnostic, a weekly plan with tasks, a daily routine, drills for each skill, a mock test schedule and a score tracker. It works best if you can give 10–15 hours a week, and it tells you honestly when to push your exam date back.

Questions

Some people can, especially from NCLC 6 or a strong B1 with 10–15 hours a week. From NCLC 5, plan on about 15 hours a week or a longer timeline. Progress varies a lot, so use your week-8 mock to decide whether to keep your exam date.

On TCF Canada: 458 / 453 / 10 / 10 in listening, reading, writing and speaking. On TEF Canada (ancien score): 249 / 207 / 310 / 310. You need NCLC 7 in all four skills; there is no averaging.

Not exactly. Research for the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks places NCLC 7 at B1+ (a very strong B1) and NCLC 8 at B2. Planning for B2 gives you a safe margin. IRCC only uses your TEF Canada or TCF Canada scores.

About 60–90 minutes on weekdays plus one longer session at the weekend, which adds up to roughly 10–15 hours a week. Daily contact with French matters more than long weekend sessions.
